I was recommended the book "Run Less, Run Faster" by a friend at dailymile.com and after being on the plans since early January, I am a believer. I PR'd in my 5K and 5 mile races this year after only training on this plan a few weeks. I am thrilled with the results and can't wait to PR my half marathon in 2 weeks and run my first marathon this year on this plan.
The plans are from FIRST (Furman Institute of Running an Scientific Training). I highly recommend this book and the training plans.
